Shamelessness is the one commodity this crew never runs short of

* kleiman:
"Alberto Gonzales's memory lapse seems to guarantee his speedy departure. Once he's gone, Gates and Rice will restart their push to close Guantanamo, which Gonzales and Cheney successfully resisted.

One might have thought that the Attorney General of the United States would be ashamed to argue that the policies he helped design are so lawless that they can't safely be executed within the jurisdiction of American courts. But one would have been wrong. Shamelessness is the one commodity this crew never runs short of."
* zinn:
"Timetables for withdrawal are not only morally reprehensible in the case of a brutal occupation (would you give a thug who invaded your house, smashed everything in sight, and terrorized your children a timetable for withdrawal?) but logically nonsensical. If our troops are preventing civil war, helping people, controlling violence, then why withdraw at all? If they are in fact doing the opposite—provoking civil war, hurting people, perpetuating violence—they should withdraw as quickly as ships and planes can carry them home."

Howard Zinn is right, and said EXACTLY what I said the other day. Let a little time go by and, once again, it will be clear Uranus told you so.

And hey, Ms. Lee, I was thinking something else today: anyone who keeps supporting the war beyond this point owns it, and will wish they hadn't. It's just a matter of time. Some people will realize it soon--others will take years. The only people who won't regret it are those few extreme right lunatic fringe types who think the north and south should still be fighting, and we should still be at war with Germany, Japan and in Vietnam. There are people like that.

Ordinarily I recommend to people they get over the idea war is a fun game before they start kindergarten.
